EXPLORING SOUL, SPIRIT, STILLNESS, WHOLENESS

Spiritual Counselling

What's on offer here is a wide-open space without judgement or expectations. Openness, with no demands on how you "should" be.

There's an unwavering invitation to be fully yourself. And in that, a more daunting invitation to gradually let go of any idea about yourself that isn't true.

What is Spiritual Counselling?

There may be a case to be made that "ordinary" counselling strives to help people feel more comfortable in their lives. The focus may be trying to fix what's broken so that you can return to "normal". That's not what we're doing here.

Spiritual Counselling - as we're defining it - is far less concerned with fixing problems. Our wish for you is Wholeness. Which is to say, our goal is accompanying you as you uncover and meet more and more of yourself. Or put another way, we hold steady with you as you let go of more and more of what isn't you.

Rather than solving problems, the focus is treating every challenge that comes up as an opportunity to align to and move from what's most important to you. If "being compassionate" is what you want to live from, what does that look like with the co-worker who calls you racial slurs?

You may find yourself letting go of beliefs which offered you a sense of security. You might find yourself facing unsavory truths about yourself that undermine your sense of identity. You may find yourself sitting intimately with emotions you'd prefer to never ever face or feel. Not always comfy experiences. But the essential self and soul you gradually reveal...it may be worth some discomfort.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Spiritual Counselling offers a space in which your inner world can really transform

Not because anything within you is pushed to change. But because we create a space together in which your inner world is listened to and respected.

Then change just happens naturally.

  • Your inner wisdom might uncoil from it's hiding place and speak itself...your inner knowing and authority embodying into your bones and and guts and voice. With the understanding that it would be acknowledged and appreciated in a grounded, simple way.
  • Maybe your doubt and confusion would slip out into the space...what an event for someone who is supposed to have their shit together! And yet, a wide open space could offer room to explore those questions without bias or finger-wagging.
  • The parts of you which have been exiled or considered too ugly to be seen...an open space might convince you to unlock these apparent undesirables from their cages and let them be seen. Some deep part of you might gamble that its worth a try. And if those exiled expressions aren't met with judgement or disgust...what a beautiful shock. Maybe there's beauty there. Maybe there's a way for their return to Wholeness.
  • Inner gifts, visions, intuitions...all sorts of expressions of spirit and soul might rise up into the space with the understanding that none of it will be smirked at or written off as crazy or weird.
  • The tender, innocent part of you might speak up with the understanding that it won't be held to standards of adult rationality. The list goes on...

Acknowledgement. Honoring. Genuine compassion. It's simple stuff. But when it's authentic...

A Place of Deep Inquiry

Spiritual Counselling offers a space in which to hold open questions over time. The point being less to find quick and easy answers, but to keep exploring past the quick and easy...to let the questions serve as excavations tool that reveal more and more of the truth of who you are.

  • Who are you? Beyond the roles you've played and the images you've taken on from others. Beyond others' expectations and your own self-limiting ideas.
  • What's most important to you? And what would be involved in living from that?
  • What might be the unique way you could show up in the world that would be aligned to a deep sense of who you are and what you have to offer?
  • What are you ready to let go of? What ideas about yourself and reality no longer serve...
  • What hidden or forgotten parts of you might still be waiting for a chance to surface?
  • What's to be made of the Stillness that seems to be there in the background? How might that be lived from?

FAQ

  • Nope. We’re still operating in the territory of professional counselling, which officially outlaws the therapist pushing any kind of religious and spiritual ideas on the client. Spiritual Counselling is more of a mindset - of exploring experience in a way that focuses more on soul, depth, and meaning. While still staying within the official rules of counselling.

  • The tendency of spiritual groups can often be to present collectively agreed upon truths and celebrate collectively agreed upon values. If you love these truths and values - great. Our focus is supporting you in an inner listening that deepens your relationship with your own truth. That might involve taking a spiritual teaching you’ve encountered and bringing it home - into your bones - through reflecting and embodying it over time. Or it might mean realizing some of the spiritual teachings you’ve been presented with are not ultimate a good fit for you. We don’t have skin in the game to convince you either way: we just hold an open space for you to notice what’s true for you.

  • That depends on your insurance. On invoices and receipts, we describe the sessions simply as “counselling”. So it may well be you can be reimbursed by whatever company you might be with.
